Summer visit at our Toronto beehive

Honey production is on! As of June 6th, everything is going so well at 1291 Bayview. Here you can see our bees working hard at constructing cells and storing honey. Around this time of year, the colony is growing rapidly. The hive must be fully inspected to ensure that the queen has enough space to […]

Splitting the Colony

As the first flowers arrive, the hive must be divided in order to rebalance the resources (food and honey) and the brood (eggs, larvae and pupae). In an urban environment this essential step helps to prevent the phenomenon called swarming. For our Montreal hives, this step took place on May 9th. A second queen born […]

Another season for our urban bees!

On April 21st, the Montreal beehives were opened later than usual. The good weather and the warmth were delayed in the city. Unfortunately one of the two hives did not survive the winter. But we will soon receive our new tenants 🙂 Thanks to our beekeeper Simon.

The 2022 beekeeping season is here!

We are always eager, once the weather permits, to open our hives for the very first time of the year. It is also a somewhat anxious moment since we can see if the colony has survived our harsh Quebec winter. What a joy it was to see that our 2 hives at our Laval site […]

Our beehives in Laval are thriving

Despite the heat, our Laval hives are doing great. During one of the last visits, our beekeeper was able to see how healthy they are. With the addition of another box, and then the wire mesh to restrict the queen to the lowest box, the bees will be able to devote their efforts to produce […]
