A message from our beekeeper in Toronto

News, Urban Beekeeping

This is a message and a picture from Rachel Lucas, our beekeeper in Toronto. She’s taking care of our hive at 1291 Bayview. This is from her visit on May 9th, for the splitting of the colony:

Healthy bees = happy beekeeper!

The lovely ladies on your roof were looking gorgeous when I came to visit today. So gorgeous, in fact, that we gave them a little split! About half of the girls in your hive came with me back to our yard. Don’t worry though— this practice is an imitation of their natural impulse to reproduce. We’re not stealing your bees! Just keeping them from stealing away in the night.
